Matt Wixon

LITERARY CLIENT

Matt Wixon, a writer and columnist for The Dallas Morning News, has been writing humor columns and features since his days at the University of Arizona. He studied journalism in college, at least on most weekdays, and graduated magna cum laude, which is Latin for “without money.”

Wixon’s journalism career began at his high school in Glendale, Ariz., where he was part of a newspaper staff dedicated to exposing the truth, improving the world and stretching a lunch break to two hours. At the University of Arizona, he won the Mark Finley Golden Pen Award for best beginning news writer.

Soon after, Wixon decided to focus on sports writing because it wouldn’t require sitting through a two-hour city council meeting. In Arizona, he won state awards for his sports columns, sports features and enterprise writing. He has covered everything from the NBA Finals to a high school basketball game that featured a total of nine points.

Wixon joined The Dallas Morning News in 1999 as a sports copy editor and began writing sports columns and features for the paper four years later. Since 2001, his “Humor Me” column has appeared in The Dallas Morning News and several other newspapers, as well as on a variety of Internet sites. He also shoots and edits sports and humor videos for the Morning News web site.

Wixon is married and lives in the Dallas area. He has three young sons, Ryan, Cooper and Nathan, who provide daily inspiration for his columns and allow very little time to write them. His Internet homepage is www.mattwixon.com.
