Efterklang

October 19th 2009 Performing Parades by Efterklang & The Danish National Chamber Orchestra will be released worldwide. To celebrate this CD/DVD & LP/DVD - live album & concert film - Efterklang will go on tour in the fall of 2009.

Delivering a performance that was dramatic at every turn, there is nobody else doing quite what this band is doing right now. This mesmerising gig was proof that Efterklang have become a must-see live act - Brian Keane for THE IRISH TIMES

Efterklang make music for the inspired. But don't feel left out, for Efterklang inspire all. Otherworldly pop songs, managing to be both magnificently ambitious and engagingly intimate. Breathtaking panoramas of sound with few clear antecedents. This is music with no boundaries.

Childhood friends Casper Clausen, Mads Brauer and Rasmus Stolberg grew up on the small Danish island of Als, close to the German border. Fuelled by youthful ambition, the trio moved to Copenhagen where they were joined by Rune Mølgaard and Thomas Husmer, forming Efterklang in December 2000.

Early on, the band instituted a self-sufficient working method that they still apply to everything they do: writing, recording, producing and organizing every element of their music and performance from their Copenhagen bunker.

In 2004 they signed with British The Leaf Label and their first album Tripper (2004) still stands as the fastest selling debut album in the label's 12-year history. Parades (2007), their second full-length album, took things to an even bigger level. The recordings involved more than 30 guest musicians, including a string quartet, a brass quintet and three separate choirs. The album also included lead single Mirador, which now has racked up over a million (1,000,000!) views on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSKIl-NeZeE

Parades received massive critical acclaim in their home country Denmark and abroad. According to the UK medias Mojo and Drowned in Sound the album was among the 25 best records released in 2007. In their native Denmark they have been awarded with 5 important music awards (3 Steppeulven 2007 and 2 Danish Music Awards 2008) and topped several album of the year lists.

Efterklang have become known for delivering absolutely stunning live shows. Following the release of Parades the band took their 8-piece live-band on the road for 15 months, playing more than 130 concerts across North America, Asia and Europe. The tour established Efterklang as one of the most interesting and uplifting bands to catch on the live circuit.

They gave their biggest performance yet in Koncerthuset in Copenhagen, September 2008. Together with The Danish National Chamber Orchestra they performed their album Parades in full from start to finish. An entirely breathtaking and sweepingly majestic affair and the best part about this special show was the fact that it was recorded for posterity in sound and pictures.

October 19th 2009 Efterklang will release Performing Parades a limited edition deluxe gatefold CD+DVD and LP+DVD package based on their performance with The Danish National Chamber Orchestra. The live recording is packaged with an intimate 55-minute concert film on DVD directed by Benjamin Hesselholdt. The DVD also includes a behind the scenes documentary (with English and Danish subtitles) of the preparations for the event, as well as all six videos made for tracks from Parades.

October 28th 2009 Efterklang will celebrate the release of Performing Parades with a major concert at London’s Barbican Hall in which the orchestral version of Parades will be staged with The Britten Sinfonia, who teamed up with Efterklang to great success at the fuseleeds09 festival.

Efterklang are touring in September this year with slots at several major UK festivals, and will return in October/November for further club shows to promote the release of Performing Parades.

Did we forget to mention anything? Oh yeah! Efterklang also run a record label entitled Rumraket. Their very first signing to the label in 2005 was the now very famous American band Grizzly Bear and since then has followed a string of new and respected releases from the small label that also functions as the home for Efterklang’s output in Denmark.

One last note. Efterklang have secretly already begun work on their 3rd full-length album, of which a release is expected in the spring of 2010 .
