Melanie Pullen was born in New York City in 1975. Her photography has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including solo shows at: Ace Gallery, Los Angeles (2008) and Ace Gallery, Beverly Hills (2005); MiCamera, Milan (2007); White Wall Gallery, Seoul (2006). Her work has also been included in various museum exhibitions such as: Carnegie Art Museum (2008); The Museum of Photographic Arts (2007); The Contempory Arts Center and The Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art (2006).
Her photographic series’ have been featured in numerous publications and broadcasts including New York Times Magazine, LA Times, San Francisco Chronicle, ArtReview, The London Independent on Sunday Review, Vogue, Elle, Fortune, W, GQ, RollingStone, Nylon, Photo, Art Forum, National Public Radio, CBS Radio and CBS News.
Melanie Pullen’s monograph High Fashion Crime Scenes (a series of 74 scenes) was published by Nazraeli Press and has received international critical acclaim by magazines such as Art Review, Spin, Variety, Vanity Fair, Elle and Vogue. Pullen’s book includes an introduction by Luke Crisell and essays by both Robert Enright and Colin Westerbech.
In 2008, Pullen completed Violent Times, a new body of work which is the most extensive photographic show of the last decade. The series consists of 95 lightboxes that vary in scale from 4 to 10 feet and are the largest transparencies printed in the world. The series is currently on view in a solo exhibition at Ace Gallery in Los Angeles. In 2009, Violent Times will begin an international tour that will continue through 2012.
Pullen is best known for her series High Fashion Crime Scenes, which continues to tour galleries and museums worldwide.
