Chic Gamine

Hailing from Winnipeg, Manitoba, a cappella group Chic Gamine draws inspiration from Gospel, Soul, World, and Roots music. Performing together since 1997 (as members of Madrigaïa), the group (Ariane Jean, Andrina Turenne, Alexa Dirks and Annick Brémault) take their love of experimenting with vocal roots music and bring it to a whole other level. Together they create a sound that resounds with soul, passion and their own particular brand of humour that leaves audiences wanting for more and more.
Chic Gamine performs with a solo percussionist as their main musical support while these accomplished songstresses use their voices as instruments, effortlessly launching into intricate string arrangements, bass-heavy rhythm sections and melodious harmonies. An evening with Chic Gamine includes songs and sounds from African, the Middle-East, South Americanand French-Canadian Folk.
After spending years traveling and performing before personages of note, such as the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada as well as for cheering crowds of 100 000 people in Haiti, Chic Gamine is ready to bring their world music to the world stage. An album release is anticipated for 2008.
