State of Shock
Since the release of ‘Money Honey’, the first single from their sophomore album ‘Life, Love & Lies’, STATE OF SHOCK have become the story of the year at Canadian radio from Victoria to St. John’s. ‘Money Honey’ has reached the Top 10 at both Rock and CHR radio formats nationally and has just about reached the platinum sales mark.
Pretty heady stuff for a band that a year ago was wondering what the future held. They believed in themselves and made a commitment to each other and to the music that has brought them to this point. Investing all the money they made in their day jobs as well as all the credit they could get takes a serious amount of courage. Even with fancy computer programs and home recording equipment it still takes a lot of money to record an album as good as ‘Life, Love & Lies’. Top producer Jeff Dawson and great studios like the legendary Mushroom/Hiposonic & Bryan Adams’ Warehouse are in great demand and don’t come cheaply. One listen to the resulting album, though, proves it was worth it. ‘Life, Love & Lies’ is full of great Pop/Rock songs with double hooks, wicked guitar lines and a driving bottom end that makes you move, even when you’re sitting down.
Cordova Bay Records believed as well. As soon as they heard the album they set about wooing the band and eventually an agreement was reached. STATE OF SHOCK and Cordova Bay Records are a great partnership.
Shortly after the release of ‘Money Honey’ to radio, word of a possible tour with Nickelback reached the band and they set about winning that opportunity. The boys from Nickelback came to the ‘Life, Love & Lies’ CD release party in Vancouver to see them play and before the night was over Chad could be seen on the dance floor singing along to ‘Money Honey’ and the gig was theirs.
Two weeks after ‘Life, Love & Lies’ was released they set off for St. John’s to begin six weeks opening for Nickelback on all of their Canadian tour dates. Additionally, they played every club and hideaway along the road including the high profile gig at Sarnia Bayfest, appearing as the set up for Aerosmith in front of 27,000 people.
