Jeremy Fisher

Jeremy Fisher is a troubadour and a storyteller. He has spent the better part of his life logging hours on the road and making sense of the unique experiences that can only be conveyed by having a Bedouin-like existence, through his music. Riding his bike from coast to coast to support his first release, Back Porch Spirituals in 2001 and then throughout his time supporting his sophomore CD and major label debut, Let It Shine on Sony Music, the Vancouverite (and native Hamiltonian) has enjoyed every unknown stretch of the road. The first single from Let It Shine, ‘High School’, garnered great radio and video play across the country and established Jeremy as one of Canada’s brightest new talents by revealing the depth of his songwriting and the conviction in his heart.

His free-roaming style of battling indifference by staying true to his artistic sensibilities and wearing his heart on his sleeve eventually led him to Aquarius Records, the new and comfortable address of his third release, Goodbye Blue Monday.

“I'm happy to have found a new home for my recordings with Aquarius Records”, says Jeremy from his Vancouver home. “We've been friends for years and we share a similar enthusiasm for continually evolving music. It's important for me to have the creative freedom they've offered and the support of a small, committed team. I'm also excited to have a more hands-on approach to the marketing and promotion aspect of my career, which has been lacking in recent years. It was hard to part ways with Sony/BMG, but as I changed and that company changed we grew apart. When it became clear that we each envisioned an entirely different direction for my next album we shook hands and went our separate ways. I'll miss working with the dedicated people who believed in me over there.”

Keith Brown of Aquarius Records commented, “What impresses my most about Jeremy Fisher is that he’s a great songwriter and he genuinely loves what he’s doing. I feel lucky that Aquarius will have an opportunity to be part of Jeremy’s adventure.”

Jeremy entered the studio mid-September 2006 to begin recording his album with producer / artist Hawksley Workman. A critically acclaimed artist in his own right, Hawksley has produced his own albums as well as albums by fellow Canadians Sarah Slean, Cash Brothers, John Southworth, Tegan and Sarah and Serena Ryder. Goodbye Blue Monday was recorded at Signal Path Studios in Almonte, ON and features Hawksley lending his vocal and musical talents on many songs throughout the record.

Hawksley remarked before entering the studio to record Jeremy’s album, "I am very amped to be working with Jeremy in the studio. After our little trial run this summer, I'm convinced the record will be great and a pleasure to make. Jeremy's a brilliant and direct songwriter with a bright soul."

Concert impresario and Chairman of the DKD Group, Donald K Tarlton affirms that “Jeremy is one of Canada’s premiere singer-songwriters. I became a true fan, and when the opportunity presented itself to bring him to Aquarius Records, it was a dream come true.”

Jeremy’s music and writing compels the listener to take a stand and look a little closer. Like some of the most prolific musical journeymen that have influenced him – whether he is compared to JJ Cale or Neil Young or even Paul Simon – Jeremy finds truth and meaning in the details and his songs are the engine that drives his artistic expression and exploration. Jeremy Fisher’s ability to blend a literate and descriptive world with the playfulness of a catchy melody and then position it within a very natural and rootsy musical setting, creates something fresh yet familiar. His non-passive approach in addressing the subject matter in his songs and the personal way he expresses his convictions and his own self-doubt, are the qualities that set Jeremy Fisher apart and most sincerely illustrate both his creativity and inspiration.

If you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything.
